BACKGROUND
Rachel Coalition's raises awareness about domestic violence by providing resources, education and outreach programs for the community. Our outreach professionals and volunteers speak at schools, community groups and synagogues on a wide variety of domestic violence related topics. All of our outreach and community programs are free to the public.
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
Florin Education Series:
The Florin Education Series Endowment Fund sponsors an annual community education program offering different perspectives on domestic violence. On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, Rachel Coalition and NCJW Essex County Section presented the Women to Women Luncheon. This year's topic was Raising Awareness of Teen Relationship Violence and features guest speakers Vicki Crompton-Teeter, author of "Saving Beauty from the Beast: How to Protect Your Daughter from an Unhealthy Relationship," and Dr. Jennifer L. Hartstein, PsyD.
Rachel Shabbat at MetroWest Synagogues
Rabbis and volunteers from the Rachel Coalition Speakers Bureau address congregants about domestic violence at specially-designated Shabbat services.
Run for Rachel
The Run for Rachel, a USATF-certified 5K Women's Championship Race, 3K Walk and Kids' Fun Run is an important fundraiser, and annually attracts more than 600 participants.
The 12th Annual Run for Rachel will take place on Sunday, May 20, 2012. Individuals interested in sponsoring or volunteering for the event should contact Sylvia Heller at 973-765-9050 or sheller@jfsmetrowest.org.
Court Advocate Volunteer Training Program
This 40-hour program trains volunteers to assist domestic violence victims as they await their restraining order hearings in Essex County Family Court.
